"Birthday Cake" Card

Today is my big sister's birthday! She has an awesome blog that you should definitely check out and, if you stop by today, please wish her a happy birthday!

Obviously, today's project is a birthday card! I started with a 9"x4" card and layered it with a 8.75"x3.75" piece of pink cardstock and a piece of 8.5"x6" cardstock.

The birthday cake and cake stand are both cut from the Sweet Treats cartridge at 4.75" and 2.14" respectively.

The yellow cardstock is cut at 3.5"x3", punched with the Martha Stewart Framed Dots punch, and embossed with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder. The sentiment frame is cut from Lacy Labels at 1.25".

"Easter Chicks" 12x12 Double Layout

Edit: This project was featured on Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog's Scrappin' Saturdays!

This is a 12"x12" double layout that was created primarily with the A Child's Year cartridge. The silhouettes on this cartridge can be a bit of challenge for me because I usually prefer the look of layered cuts but I think they worked well the with pastel colors and Springy feel of this layout.

This layout features three 4"x6" photo mats.

I used the Martha Stewart Eyelet Lace punch to create a lacy border around my green cardstock and then layered this onto hot pink cardstock.

The title is cut from the Cindy Loo cartridge at 1.75" and 1.25"; the date is cut from the A Child's Year cartridge at 1.25".

The first silhouette was cut at 5".

I cut two daffodil borders at 2" each; the first one was used as is and the second was cut with the "flip" option and hand altered. The easter eggs were cut at 1.75".

The second silhouette is cut at 5.5" and embellished with a tiny bow. Both chicks are cut at 2" and the bunnies are cut at 2.25".

The daffodil is cut at 3.75", the Easter eggs are cut at 2" and the third silhouette is cut at 4".

Finally, I used the tag feature and a stamp to create a small journaling spot. The tag is cut at 2.25" and embellished with a matching ribbon.

"Spring Birthday" Card

I don't know if it's because I've been so sick lately or if it's because I have a serious case of the Winter Blues but I've been in a huge crafting funk, lately. I'll start several different projects, get frustrated with all of them and then not finish anything. But my best friend's birthday is today so I knew I had to push through my funk and complete at least one really cute birthday card. This is what I came up with:

The flower is from the Florals Embellished cartridge. I was worried that these images were a little too intricate and would be difficult to cut but I found that as long as I used a heavier-weight cardstock, the images were very easy to cut and layer.

The flower was cut at 3.75" and embellished with tiny gemstones...

...and the sentiment frame was cut from the Lacy Labels cartridge at 1.5".

Hopefully, I'll start feeling better soon and have some new projects for you guys soon. If you have any projects or themes you'd like to see, please let me know! I could definitely use the inspiration.

"Sugar and Spice - New Arrival" 12x12 Double Layout

Today's project was created for Getting Cricky with K Andrew's Simple Sunday Challenge: Sugar and Spice and a Whole Lot of Nice.

I'm so excited about this project! Baby layouts are my favorite and this one has so many cute elements and so much detail on it. I think it's probably my favorite layout that I've ever created!

It's a standard 12"x12" double layout with four 4"x6" photo mats.

I used five different cartridges on this layout! But I figure if you've got 'em...use 'em.

I used the New Arrival cartridge for the title and the ever-present sun and clouds are from the Mickey and Friends cartridge.

The stork was cut from the Sugar and Spice Lite cartridge and embellished with faux-stitching and a small gemstone.

The house is also cut from the Sugar and Spice cartridge. I love house cuts and I always get really excited when there's one included on a cartridge. And this one is so adorable! Probably my favorite one. I lined the windows with yellow cardstock to create a homey, lit-from-within feel, embossed the roof with the Cuttlebug Tiny Mosaic Texture folder and added some faux-stitching. The tree is cut from the Bloom cartridge and embellished with faux-stitching and light pink gemstones.

The clothesline is cut from the Straight From the Nest cartridge. As soon as I saw this cut, I immediately had the idea for this layout and it turned out almost exactly how I imagined it. I love when that happens! The grass and flowers are cut from the same cartridge. I cut extra flowers in contrasting colors, layered them together and then added gemstone centers for a little extra detail.

The second tree is also cut from the Bloom cartridge and the baby carriage is cut from the New Arrival cartridge. The carriage is embossing with the Cuttlebug Argyle folder and embellished with more faux-stitching and gemstones. The grass cuts are from the Create a Critter cartridge.

I included four 4"x6" double photo mats in this layout. The top layer of a double photo mat is cut at 4.5"x6.5" and the inner layer is cut at 4.25"x6.25"; this way, when you insert a 4"x6" photo, it will be framed by both the green border and the yellow border. I do this with almost every photo mat I use; to me it adds a lot more interest than just a single photo mat. I used the Martha Stewart Fence border punch to create a bottom border for my picture; the bottom edge is popped up on foam so that a photo can still be easily slid into the frame. The photo corners are cut from the Straight from the Nest cartridge.

Cricut cartridges: New Arrival, Sugar and Spice, Mickey and Friends, Bloom, and Straight from the Nest
Martha Stewart Edger Punch - Fence
Paper: DCWV - The Green Stack and Recollections cardstock
